Two and a half hectares of vines between seventy and a hundred and fourteen years old, rescued from abandonment south of Coimbra. Varieties intermingled in the soil, as they always were. Native yeasts, little sulphur, and as few decisions as possible.

01 · The wines
Field blends, as the vineyard gives them.
There are no separated varieties in these vineyards. What goes into the lagar is what the parcel gives, in the proportions someone planted a century ago. Each wine is the portrait of one place.

02 · The project
The name comes from his father’s vineyard.
Penicas was the name of the vineyard where Alberto Almeida played as a child, in São Martinho de Árvore, and where his father made the house wine. The shells on the label are the ones he picked up between the vines, the same ones the Sicó limestone still holds fossilised from when all this was sea.

Terras de Sicó was passed over by the enthusiasm for foreign varieties. Which is why the ungrafted vines are still here, ten or more indigenous varieties side by side, with Baga in charge.
